It has officially been one week since I was allowed to bear weight. My first physical therapy session went well. I had pictured it much differently. I figured there would be some stretching, some massaging, and a general feeling of goodness. My PT began with 10 minutes of heat followed by 45 minutes of stretching, and ending with 15 minutes of ice and electric shock treatment. I was extremely frustrated by the fact that I was barely using one crutch to walk when I went in, and my leg felt tighter after I left. I figured that the therapist knew best and that I should simply do what they say.

Sure enough, an hour later, I didn’t need a crutch at all. My ankle felt loose. Though I was walking in my Frankenstein fashion, I was starting to feel independent. My second visit went better, and now I’m at a point that each time I do my stretches (3 times a day religiously) I’m walking better. Today I got ride the bike at the PT office. This really got me pretty excited.

The only problem I now have is the swelling caused by wearing my air cast and a sneaker. Oddly enough, it’s the opposite side of my foot that grows to about the size of a baseball during the day, and completely goes away at night. I‘ve started wearing sandals to the office. Hopefully, this will help. My co-workers are pretty sympathetic when they see a fellow walking down the hall decked out in a suit, black socks, and a pair of Adidas sandals.
