On May 14, 2010 I was walking down my moms driveway...it is on a slope that can be slick. Well my luck with the combination of the slope and the shoes I was wearing I fell and broke my right leg!! The moment I fell I knew I was in trouble. Barely seeing what my foot looked like, I could see my ankle (on the inside of my leg), it wasnt an open fracture. Luckily I was able to flag down the garbage men coming down the street to help me. (gotta love those men!) They went and got my mom, who at first thought it was that bad!
After I got to the ER...the ER doctor came in and did xrays and I was in surgery an hour later...I broke my fibula in 2 places (which is being held by a metal plate and 8 screws) and my tibula in 3 places (which is being held by a wire). While I was in the hopsital the only thing I really remember, is when my daughter came in that night. Her dad picked her up at school and didnt tell her what had happened until they were coming over to see me. He face looked like she was soo scared and didnt know what to say or do.
At first my doctor said I would need a skin graft because of the ankle being dislocated, and I would be in cast for 6 weeks, then a high tide boot for another 3 months...Well come to find out..no skin graft! YAY! My skin didnt get to bad damaged and they say it should heal as time goes on. No cast for 6 weeks! Straight to the high tide boot.
I have been down for 7 weeks now and it feels like an eternity! I was the mom/wife that was driving my daughter to school and back, going to the store, going to school myself, I rarely had time to breath I was so busy. Now I sit here and have to have everyone else help me. Its been crazy because I am 29 years old...never had a broken bone ever, until now! I have gone thru 3 major back surgeries ( i have scoliosis) and childbirth...and the pain I have had since the fall has been alot worse than any of that!
