Bob_G : What a way to end the summer!
Diary entry posted Thu 8:53pm 3 December 2009

My broken left Femur started on August 24,2009. My leg gave out unexpectedly with searing pain at the bottom of my living room stairs....on my way to answer the door bell. Fortunately the cable guy, who rang the bell called 911. I ended up in the hospital and was put in traction overnight. Traction is not any fun at all!
The doctor told me I had a spiral fracture...(I guess I caught my foot in the oak spindles on the staircase). Oak is really strong! Stronger than my femur.
I spent 5 days in the hospital then I was moved moved to a Physical Rehab Center for Physical Therapy (PT) and Occupational Therapy (OT). There, over the next 2 weeks, I was enlightened in the process for rehabilitating someone who has lost the use of their leg. Initially I could not move the leg or even lift it off the bed...not even a quarter of an inch. That is when the realization set in that this was not going to be like one of my previous injuries from sports. The doc told me 6 months to a year for it to heal, and most likely one year to a year and one half before I could resume my martial arts training. Since I didn't know about this site beforehand, the saga will have to continue from memory! Those memories are all too clear since I still have a long way to go. More to come!
