I had something fairly similar in 2013 - fell down for some stupid reason, ankle dislocated 90 degrees, put it back myself. Except that after that the pain was excruciating and I could not move, so I was amazed you could still go bowling!
Then I read further and realized that you broke the fibula and dislocated the ankle joint, whereas I broke both the fibula and tibia. Guess that explained the difference. I had 2 plates (one for each bone) and 11 screws including the syndesmotic.
But the rest again sounded familiar - NWB for 6 weeks because of syndesmotic screw, atrophy of leg muscles, swelling, etc. It took a long time in my case, an extra three months of partial weight bearing, because of bone loss in the fibula (about 0.5cm splintered into tiny pieces). If yours had no such problem I guess by now you'll be walking without aid.
All the best!
