Carolyn_C : Sept 29th - Fracture Clinic - Weber A fibula fracture
Diary entry posted Thu 7:15pm 19 October 2017

I received my diagnosis the following Friday. The doctor told me that I had broken my ankle the "best way possible", as it was a stable fibula fracture. Instead of a fiberglass cast I received an Aircast. I was told that I would need to be NWB for 5 more weeks. I was also assigned ankle exercises to be done daily (3 times a day):
1) Pointing the foot and holding it then bringing the top up towards the shin and holding it (10x).
2) Drawing big circles with the toes (10 x clockwise and 10x counter clockwise).
3) Writing each letter of the alphabet with my toes.
I am allowed out of the cast when I am resting and elevating the leg, otherwise it needs to remain in place.

The exercises seem to be working, as I am managing to maintain most of the flexibility in my foot :)
