Hi Cath, We're here to support you and to help you heal. You'll find friends who really understand what you're going through. I'm in my 50's too and have osteoporosis for which I take meds. Worry about healing your leg first. If you can at some point, a bone density test is a good idea at our age.

You asked if you should elevate your leg? Absolutely! The idea is to elevate it above your heart level so it won't get as swollen. Lay back in the recliner with your foot on a pillow or two and keep that leg up high. Let your husband and children continue to spoil you.

Calcium is a good idea for us ladies. I take 1500 ius a day plus Vitamin D. You need Vitamin D to absorb the calcium.

Made a jigsaw puzzle out of my right ankle just over four months ago. FX Tib/fib/talus, surgery, plate, lots of screws, some screws taken out in October. It's been quite a journey, and I could not have made it without My Broken Leg.

And so, welcome! - Diana
