Eric_L : Spiral tib/fib fracture after thrown from PWC
Diary entry posted Sat 8:46pm 12 January 2019

It was late on a Saturday afternoon, riding my personal water craft (PWC) on a nearby lake trying to burn off extra fuel as this was my last outing for the season. I was less than 5 minutes from the boat ramp, when I started a large sweeping turn at high speed and crossed a boat wake. Coming off the far wave, my PWC suddenly darted one way and I was violently thrown off. My sudden exit forced me up and over my left leg, effectively planting my left foot deep in the foot well with all my weight on it, as my body twisted around from the turning motion, my left leg twisted severely. As I continued to fall to the outside, my foot rotation was stopped by the foot Well and the high traction river sandal would not release and I heard snapping sounds over the wind, waves and motor. Next thing I knew I was airborne thinking I had torn up all the ligaments in my knee, then reality hit hard literally as I entered the water at over 50 mph head first on my back. Upon surfacing I grabbed my knee to investigate, only to find it sore, but OK. What I was about to find out was I had broken my lower left leg. First indication was as I tried to swim over to the pwc, my left foot was somewhat flopping around, which I thought was odd until I realized the leg was broken.
