Eric_L : Spiral tib/fib fracture after thrown from PWC
Diary entry posted Sun 2:36pm 3 February 2019

Here on Superbowl Sunday, I am looking back on a week of milestones in my recovery five months post-op. I had fresh x-rays taken earlier in the week and for the first time there was significant bone calcification and bone growth activity seen! The most in this past month than any previous month of the last 5. My OS told me the tibia is about 60% healed and the fibula over 90% healed, both exhibiting strong bridging zones and the IM rod and screws are stable with no hardware bent or backing out. This improved my confidence during walking and PT enabling me to feel free to push my leg harder and further without concern. I also took my longest walk yet over 2.5 miles and while I was sore and swollen afterwards, it felt good to be outside and experiencing the woods again. My limping is improving greatly, at times very little is noticed until I get tired and when favoring my leg some limp returns. After a successful week, I worked the courage to get my motorcycle out today, and took a 40 mile ride. Once I was rolling I honestly forgot about my leg and enjoyed the rolling countryside on back roads around the NC Piedmont. So 5 months is the magic mark for my recovery, I am largely back to the routine of life, PT is going well, and my leg is well on the road to full recovery. Its been a long time since I was in the lake struggling to deal with the reality of a severely broken leg and today when I rode my H-D and can support the bike with a rapidly strengthening left leg. Keep up hope you will heal, and god bless you all that are on the road to full recovery. Take care, Eric_L
