Eric_L : Spiral tib/fib fracture after thrown from PWC
Diary entry posted Sat 9:21pm 12 January 2019

Back at the dock, I just wanted to get off that pwc and out of the water, however it was clear I could not stand up or roll off into the dock, without making things worse. So, I was left to call 911, as the ramp was getting quiet as the day was waning. I dug out my phone from the drybag and placed the emergency call. It wasn't long before I heard sirens as the local volunteer FD was nearby, next thing I knew a paramedic was walking out on the dock towards me. He quickly assesed the situation and had me beach the pwc at the foot of the dock, where he got in the water and splinter my swollen leg as I sat on the pwc. We debated next steps and decided I should not attempt to move, so we enlisted a fellow boater to fetch my truck / trailer and pull the pwc with me on it from the water. Getting off that high & dry pwc was the next challenge, as my 51 year old, 280 lb frame with a broken leg would test my flexibility. In the end, a backboard was placed behind me and I pulled myself along it onto the the just arrived Advanced Life Support ambulance gurney. Then it was off on a 20 minute ride to the local hospital.
