Eric_L : Spiral tib/fib fracture after thrown from PWC
Diary entry posted Sun 6:34pm 13 January 2019

Well my October visit with the OS came and went quickly with no evidence of much recovery shown on the X-rays, other that transitioning to a boot finally ditching that irritating hard cast after 5 weeks. The boot was refreshing as I finally could take a real shower without worry. I was able to attend that wedding and had a great time, even though I learned that handicap access left alot to be desired with a knee scooter, nearly went over the handlebars a few times with slopes, rough pavement, no curb cuts etc. at the beach resort. Pain continued to reduce and I gradually cut back on icing down my leg, but continued to keep elevated continously where feasible especially after car rides. I had a few close calls including once slipping on the basement stairs, afterwards I butt-scooted down everytime. I started to get out for dinner once per week, and that became the highlight of the week. Progress was slow in November with almost no change in my x-rays from the month before and I became to be concerned with non-union as IM rod repairs are so rigid that natural bone repair can stall. I also started getting some feelings on the left side of my knee where the nerves were severed by the surgical incision. I would take my boot off more and more, flexing my ankle and knee to maximize range of motion, but was rewarded with some shooting pain and almost immobile toes. Fortunately lower leg nerve or vascular damage was minimal so within a few days I could see some progress but there would be no walking with the boot for Thanksgiving as I had hoped.
