 casting an old, chronic injury
mimigayle (66.117.177.---)   9:35am Apr 24 2008

I've had chronic edema and pain around the cuboid bone/fifth metatarsal of my left foot since a running injury in 2001. It got much worse in 2004, and I've had quite limited activity since then. My newest doctor wants to put it in a cast for six weeks to completely stabilize and offload it in the hopes that it will finally heal, seven years later. It's a last-ditch effort before we resort to foot surgery. Has anyone ever heard of this kind of thing working on such an old injury? No tests (MRIs, bone scans, etc.) have ever seen anything but edema, no fractures, etc. I'm worried that I'll be laid up half the summer for nothing--any feedback would be much appreciated!
