In my case, I'm 40 and I broke my tib/fib on Jan. 1st. Surgery on Jan. 3rd for IM pin and screws. At 2-weeks my cast came off and I was given a boot. Just this past week (6-week mark), I was given the ok for 50% weight bearing with the aircast boot. I'm seeing the OrthoSurgeon again in 4-6 weeks for another x-ray of my leg to see how it's recovering. So I think, in my case the recovery is about 3 months at least. Maybe I'll be ok with a cane by then, but I think it will depend on my physio exercises and how well the bone has healed. Overall, for optimal recovery I would stress good nutrition, keeping your spirits up, having visitors, being careful moving around and elevating and resting the leg. Best of luck!
