I'm by no means an expert, so my opinion is purely based on what I've experienced and seen on this forum. It sounds normal to me. If you're no longer feeling that awful broken bone pain, there must be some healing that has taken place at the breaks, even if it's not enough to show on the x-rays yet.
Most Ortho surgeons seem to have in common always being in a rush and not taking time to explain much, unfortunately. There also seems to be a fairly wide range of when they allow weight bearing to start, some of it based on placement and/or severity of the breaks and some based on how conservative the OS is in their treatment. You're in the realm of normal based on the many treatments I've seen in the group here over the last 2 years :)
