when i discovered this forum i remember your posts about the external fixator. i avoided that treatment but understand some of the issues.
good that you have bone formation, the lack of bone has been one of my concerns and i still remember the delusion at every x-ray check.
nonunion in my experience is less worring, i overcame it with wb.... althought when i started wb in the short cast the bones weren't immobilized enough and refractured!
i assume the nail is stabilizing the bones enough but don't overdo when the leg tells you not to walk on it.
another good thing is that you don't suffer from osteoporosis, probably this is very correlated with cast immobilization and would lead to very high chance of reinjury.
