I suffered a spiral fracture of my distal fibula. I was given 2 options, surgery, or casting for 8 weeks (four weeks above knee, four below). Unlike you, I really only given a few seconds to decide and went with the cast. Yes, it was a pain, but it didn't carry the risks of surgery.
