Jay, it takes time. The good think about your having been told to use the leg early is you should have less muscle wastage and less joint stiffness. But you will still have both of these. Keep the leg elevated as much as possible to help the circulation and reduce the swelling. Try the 'slow dance' to help you progress not in the boot: take the boot off, hold e.g. a counter top (nice and stable), then slightly lift the heel of your good foot so you put a little weight through the bad leg. Repeat several times. If you have the bad foot on bathroom scales with a dial and the good foot on something to the same level, you can even see how much weight you're putting through that leg.
You may need to back off a bit if it hurts, let it rest.
And healing IS tiring - so yes, you will be tired at the moment. That gets better with time as well.

ORIF plate 18 June. Cast problems (allodynia) so boot from 25th but NWB.
25 July start PWB in boot, 7 Aug PWB without boot. 14th Aug few steps FWB.
9 Sept 10-steps jog 25 Sept: PT says go run!
