Heather, I barely felt the removal of my stitches - slight tugging was all. I hope your cast, whether plaster (heavy!) or fibreglass is more comfort than the backslab. Boot after cast is fairly common. Write down your questions for the surgeon in advance, and take a pen and pad in for writing down the answers so you can remember it all. Depending on healing, you might be starting partial weight bearing (PWB) as soon as six weeks after the operation, but it might be longer if bone healing is slower. Then maybe another 3-4 weeks to fully weight bearing (FWB) without the boot. It does take time, and everyone's break is different, so the time scales vary quite a bit.

Good luck!

ORIF plate 18 June. Cast problems (allodynia) so boot from 25th but NWB.
25 July start PWB in boot, 7 Aug PWB without boot. 14th Aug few steps FWB.
9 Sept 10-steps jog 25 Sept: PT says go run!
