Re: 2.5 weeks down: what Iíve learned & what have you all learned?

Hi Harry

I'm 3 weeks in post ORIF and intramedullary nail for compund spiral fracture tibia, screw for medial maleolus fracture and fractured fibula. I need to be at least 6 weeks non weight bearing.

I have coped pretty well throughout and now that i feel physically so much better, boredom has hit big time.

I'm hoping to return to work 2 days next week if given the all clear from my surgeon. I developed a wound infection over the compund fracture (i was sent home from hospital with the wound undressed and without oral antibiotics which surprosed me. The surgeon states that he dressed the wound in theatre but he most definetely didn't). My husband is a podiatrist specialising in wound treatment so that has been a god send. Getting the good treatment there!

I find it hard to sleep on my back and sleeping on my side with a pillow between my legs hurts.

I am wondering if others who have been here can offer some insight as to what to expect when allowed to weight bear. I am a little anxious about the pain and the level of disability to expect.

Anyway, enough about me. I hope you are doing well Harry and that you are healing well.

Alyson
