Re: Knee problems caused by previous ankle stuff?

Dear Signe,

the first thing that pops into my mind is patellar tendonitis aka jumper's knee. It is an inflammation and degeneration of fibers in the tendon. Patellar tendon is a very strong tendon of quadriceps that goes around the knee cap and inserts at tibial tuberosity (a bump on tibial below knee cap). It is under heavy load when you bent your knee. If you have a sharp pain like someone sticking a needle doing all acitivities you described and it is painfull when you put pressure with your finger directly on the tendon it might be it.

Usually it is an overuse injury but in your case it may have something to do with your previous ankle fracture. Severe injury and several surgeries could slightly changed a biomechanics of your leg. Since you are very active and excercise a lot other structures might be overstraied because your body compensates for a reduced functionality of your ankle.
