I had a similar break of the ankle couple years ago. Being emotional is totally normal, in fact it is to be be expected. You are experiencing situational stress. I had my cast on about 7 weeks, NWB, then I was in a boot for a few more weeks weight bearing as tolerated. I was able to go to full weight bearing fairly quickly, but everyone progresses at their own rate. When I first got my cast off I only had a small range of motion (I could only flex my foot a about an inch up and down), but i worked it out doing physiology exercises and gained back almost all my range of motion.
