Joel Moore 5:53am Aug 8 2018
Hi all - I was meant to have had my hip spica cast fitted last week but it was cancelled due to lack of staff available to apply it.
I had it fitted on Monday morning this week and it’s really pretty awful to be in , I’m told that I’ll adjust to being in it but I’m not sure myself.
The cast I’m in:
It’s called a “1.5 hip spica cast” which means- it starts at the toes of my right leg and then it goes up my leg, past my hip and to my chest and then goes back down my left side to end above my knee.
They’ve attached a wooden bar between my knees to set my legs apart to keep the fractures I have stable.
It’s made of plaster and fibreglass.
I have it on for 12-16 weeks until my fractures are healed.
I go home from hospital later this week once the cast is fully dry and my partner has been shown how to care for me onnotn- which is going to be challenging.
I’ll post again soon.
Hope you are all ok.
