Hello, first of all very sorry to hear about your accident and injury. Don't worry about looking daft. It was almost 6 weeks ago I was walking my two whippets in the middle of no where, playing a game where i run away from them and they chase me. One of them clattered into me, taking my feet from under and consequently breaking my ankle in 2 places. I was told I'd need surgery and the next day had a screw and 2 wires put into my ankle. I got out of the hospital a day after that with my leg below my knee in plaster cast, advised not to weight bear for 6 weeks.
It's been a huge rollercoaster of emotions. Im usually a very independent and active person, so sitting on the couch all day has been tough. The best bit of advice i could probably give is to try and accept life is going to very different for a while. You will need to rely on others for a lot of things. Once you accept this it becomes less of an internal battle.
What type of cast do you have on? I initially had plaster of paris, but after telling the hospital it was really heavy they changed it to fiber glass.
Im not sure what to advise with on surgery, i can only share my experience. The surgery itself was fine as i was alseep for it. Its been uncomfortable with a surgical wound under my cast. Whenever my foot swells it presses the wound off my cast which isnt a nice feeling. But if it helps get me healthy again its worth it.
Hope you're coping ok in your first few days :)
