Yes, it most certainly is a big splint and getting around with it is very difficult right now. My knee is bent only slightly so my leg has to stick out in front of me when I crutch. I have to be careful not to bang it into stuff as I try to turn and negotiate things. I already have and believe me, you learn REAL quickly to be mindful of it! Even a slight tap into something sends a shockwave of pain from my ankle to my knee! Ouch!
I've never seen a splint or cast this large before period and I'm guessing most other people haven't either. When they finished up with me at the hospital, and wheeled me back out into the waiting room at the ER, it seemed like every set of eyeballs in the room was staring directly at me and this monstrosity on my leg. I felt very odd being the center of that kind of attention.
Its great to hear that your ankle seems to be healing up fine and you may be walking soon. Crazy how much we take things for granted, like the simple task of walking on 2 feet, until we can't do them. I hope your appointment goes great and you get that cast off soon!
I am located in the USA, Pennsylvania to be exact. We've had cooler weather here too but that's probably because it's been raining pretty much non-stop the last few days. I hear you may know a little about rainy days yourself. Coming from Scotland.
