You are right,it is nice to talk to people who have been a broken leg, it's certainly been and up and down experience for me,but now at the 10 month mark I've settled into my breakage and am quite happy and painish free.
I wasn't in a full length cast but was put in an airboot for 4-5 months, NMB for 4 months and a slow healer apparently, and wheelchair for 4 months. All good now, over 85% healed and booked in for hardware removal. I broke my fib and tib lower down near to my ankle,'a nasty break' and slow healer.
Break has definitely changed me as a person, I'm physically slower than my old self, but definitely more aware of my surroundings - the small things - which has been a treat for me personally. I've just accepted my time spent on the couch,in the house, not driving for a period, not being able / confident to go outside / upstairs ect and this acceptance has taken a while to get my head around and understand. I've always told myself that my break is my graph - bottom is break and top is healed - my journey is upward but not linear - my recovery has been quite up and down, 2 steps forward,4 steps back,4 massive strides forward ect ect. But I'm hopefully near the top,not quite and perhaps another year? Who knows. I've kept myself entertained through my love of food and nature - wildlife in my garden - day and night and wheeling around my kitchen to give me some sort of normality has been an important healer for me mentally.
Anyway ZD, I'man 'old timer'now in regards to my breakage - I'm out the other end, walking, driving and beginning to jog and happy!
Take the time to reassure yourself of what you will be doing in 3 months / 4 months ect ect , if I can do it relatively unscathed you can :-):-) Nicky
