I broke my tib and fib a few inches above my ankle last July. I had surgery, a plate and screws and I was put in a cast up to my knee for the first two weeks, then had my staples removed and was given an airboot.
I found exactly the same with crutches, luckily the Red Cross gave me a wheelchair that elevated my leg and meant I could just about move around in the kitchen to get stuff to eat and drink and pop to the loo.
Try not to see it as embarrassing, I could do wheelies by month 2.....Although the first time I was taken out in it I've never laughed so much in a long time, probably bought on by a little embarrassment. But it was great and really helped me out.
Take lots of care
