Take it day by day, hour by hour....everything you do - even if it is watching tv for half an hour, but half an hour distracted from your leg, reading a book for ten minutes, but ten minutes not thinking about your leg....distract your mind and thoughts, even for short periods and congratulate yourself on any small (even tiniest) achievements - distracting your worrying thoughts for ten minutes is an acheivement!!!! sleeping for an 3 hours in a row - congratualte yourself!!!!! ....You will need to be the most bestest friend to yourself !!! Keep reassuring yourself you will be ok, keep reassuring yourself this will be a temporary blip in your life....keep reassuring yourself you will walk but with patience and time....Practice mindlefullness - the here and now, not the future - be it next week, next month - THE NOW....
Be a best friend during this next few months, let yourself be sad, worried, upset, angry (I died my hair bright red during my angry stage) I freaked out during the first 2 weeks and people who care came out of the woodwork - people I never imagined who would help - my sister who I had sort of lost touch with - we became best buddies again.....
It's not all been negative....I've learned....
~Take the best care
