Matt5 : Car Accident- February 8th 2012
Diary entry posted Fri 2:15pm 24 February 2012

My name is Matt and I am 18 years old. I was involved in a serious head on collision on the 8th of February. Since then, I remain in the hospital with many injuries. I was with a group of friends, 3 others, and we were on our way home from school going to the drivers house. His name was Andrew. I was in the passenger seat and my two friends Kyle and Dylan were in the backseat. A week before that, I had sprained my ankle pretty badly. I elevated it on top of the dashboard. That was a mistake later on. As we were going down the highway, a ford truck driven by a drunk driver was going 80 mph and hit a piece of black ice and came into our lane with no reaction time. Mind you we were in a little honda civic. All I heard was BOOOM!, then screaming. We all were screaming in pain. Andrew was pinned, as was I. My friends in the back were able to move a little bit. The foot that I had elevated on the dashboard was now twisted upside down and was pretty much in my face. Most of the impact was braced on my side. My friend right behind was looking at me and was crying, I didn't know it but my body was pretty much covered in blood. I had all I could do to open my eyes. I passed out quickly and woke up in a helicopter. The helicopter had just landed and they were rushing me to surgery. I was having seizures and was in traumatic shock. My lungs and liver were all punctured and bleeding profusely. My legs were both broken. I woke up after 8 hours of surgery. By now it was 6 am the next morning. My parents were at my bedside. I was filled with tubes and couldn't talk. They asked me if I wanted to know what happened. I shook my head very lightly, just enough for them to know that I did. They told me that my friends Kyle and Dylan had no broken bones just several cuts and bruises. My friend Andrew had a broken leg and a gash in his head. He got stiches and surgery on the leg and he left 3 days later. Now that I knew my friends would be ok, I began to have faith in my recovery. To give you a full rundown of my injuries:
LEFT LEG: 3 broken toes, broken tib/fib with ORIF, and an open femoral shaft fracture wtih external fixation. RIGHT LEG: My foot was nearly severed but were able to wire it together, tib/fib fracture with ORIF. 4 Broken ribs. My friends are just came to visit, so I have to finish this later! Thank You and lets talk soon!
