Sarah,
I am so glad to hear that it isn't just medical professions here in Ohio that are so insensitive. Although my exposure has been pretty minimal in comparison to yours( I did not have surgery) I realized early on in the ER that my broken tibia/fibula didn't register on the scale of importance to many, despite the excruciating pain.

I'm now at home, (accident was a week ago) and praying that I'm recovering at whatever pace is normal. My next appointment is next friday, at which time the OS will take another xray and give me an idea of what my expectations should be.

You mentioned something in your post about having a child which makes me think that since I'm childless this injury has impacted me more because I have no point of reference for being a) dependant on the assistance of others. b) in a position where all I can do is wait.

Perhaps if I were a mother or had experienced pregnancy I'd be more......calm, or equipped to handle this. My husband has been great however and I guess that there is a lesson in everything, including falling down stairs while holding your friend's 7 month old baby.

I'm glad to hear your surgery went well. Feel free to write back.

Tonya
