Sarah,

I read what you wrote about how the challenges of a broken leg are more than just physical. I agree. It's disappointing to see how many people soon forget about you and are suddenly too busy with their own lives to visit. I am currently debating whether to have my femur cut in half (lengthwise)in order to get this rod out! You read my story before and responded, so I wont' go over the details again. I am very worried about going through such a huge procedure..but it's strange, because one of the things that worries me most is the fact that many friends just DO NOT understand! Even during my last recovery, several regularly called to talk about their own "problems" (usually something that will be resolved quickly, such as a fight with a boyfriend, etc) and only asked how I was doing as an afterthought. Of course, I still wanted to listen them and did for a while, but after some time, it made me really angry that I was always being the shoulder for them to lean on, and was not able to rely on them the same way. It's hard, but I think the best thing to do is try to focus on the people that DO help you, like your family, and just be as positive as you can! I hope the rest of your recovery goes very smoothly!
