PT twice a week which involves ďtightropeĒ style walking, heel lifts, presses using a machine that uses your own weight as resistance, and trigger point massage on the calf. The calf muscles are very tight, which makes it hard to stretch. The trigger point therapy helps immensely. I find I still need to ice and wear the brace after 3pm, as well as wear compression socks. I tried not to wear the socks but the swelling got in the way.
I canít find shoes that fit yet. The pain, swelling and stiffness seem to move about on a 12 hour cycle . It gets mixed up. For a while it feels fine. For a while it feels swollen but not painful. Then painful and stiff. Then swollen and stiff and painful. My leg just canít make up its mind. The PT says this is normal.
Balance therapy now includes balancing on the bad foot with eyes open for 30 sec, then eyes closed for 30 seconds. My foot is starting to crack and pop as the bones spread out. Iím trying hard to not take any pain medications, but some afternoons itís just too much. Iím still doing leg raises and the resistance band, when I remember!
Driving - I have successfully driven up to the store and back, and for a couple of miles and back. I am not using a cane or crutch at all anymore! Going down stairs is still difficult, but I can sometimes go down stairs relatively normally now, other times I go down one step at a time.
